Great Dixter has had a dachshund or two wandering the gardens for many years. The late Christopher Lloyd was a confirmed devotee of the breed, as was his mother.
The dogs were always named after plants (Dahlia and Canna were well known to garden visitors) and the garden's current dachshund resident is Conifer (pictured left) – still a youngster at just two years old but already wooing visitors with her sleek coat, twinkling eyes and classic good looks.
Christo was Patron of the Southern Dachshund Association until his death and during his time in the post hosted a Fun Show each year at Great Dixter. The annual event has now been reinstated and this is the second year of the show in its current guise.
The Dachsund Fun Show includes a Companion Dog Show with classes including 'Best Puppy' and 'Waggiest Tail', mini agility course and Dachshund racing (plus a barbecue for owners).
The show runs Sunday 7th October 2012, 11am-4pm (dog owners 10am). At the same time you can also visit the Great Dixter Plant Fair (Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October).
Usual rates for the Garden (£7.50) will include entrance to the Plant Fair and the Dachshund Show (held Sunday only).
