VirescoTM Aqua was introduced in 1997 as an algae and blanketweed suppressant. VirescoTM Aqua contains 50% of a microbial mixture that removes nitrate and reduces phosphate. These nutrients are the main food source for algae. Once the nitrate drops to zero, the algae dies of starvation. The nitrate level will remain at zero, usually for many weeks. The other 50% of the VirescoTM Aqua mixture is an organic waste digester which eliminates pond detritus.
