RHS Hyde Hall Flower Show

The Royal Horticultural Society's Essex garden celebrates summer with its popular flower show. With more than 30 specialist nurseries, there will be a great selection of plants on sale, alongside stands selling garden sundries and ornaments.

On 3rd July there is a gardeners' question time session with BBC Essex Radio presenter Ken Crowther and experts Tom Cole from Writtle College and Geoff Hodge.

There are also Flower Show Breakfast packages which include premium parking, a full English breakfast and early access to the show. Full details are on RHS Online

The estate and gardens will also be open for visits to enjoy.

Scotland's Gardens open day at Geilston

This year’s Scotland's Gardens Open Day will be staged in the midst of Geilston’s highly productive kitchen garden. Many delicious fruit and vegetables are grown here. To celebrate this, there will be exciting Japanese cookery demonstrations by Kimoku Hatori and her noodle chef. 

With the kitchen garden at its peak of production; visitors can learn cultivation techniques for many vegetables and a range of soft fruit including gooseberries, currants, blackberries and blueberries. Our gardening experts will be on hand to answer visitors’ questions about vegetable and fruit cultivation.

Other attractions include the long-established herbaceous border in the walled garden and the new prairie herbaceous border, both of which will be in full bloom. The newly restored MacKenzie & Moncur Victorian glasshouse will be full of colour, with the new arid border becoming well-established.

Renishaw Hall Specialist Plant Fair

Twenty five specialist nurseries will gather in front of Renishaw Hall. On sale will be a wide range of quality plants including unusual herbaceous perennials, trees, shrubs, auriculas, primulas, alpines, astrantias and many others.

Renishaw is celebrated for its fabulous Italianate garden. The formal garden was laid out in 1895 by Sir George Sitwell in classical Italianate style along with areas of more naturalistic plantings and mature woodland.

£2 or free entry to the Plant Fair when a garden ticket is purchased.

Garden Party - Hunting Brook Gardens 10 year anniversary

Ten years ago this garden was a field. Now owner Jimi Blake wants to celebrate what has been achieved.
Events throughout the day include:
Acoustic folk music on the new lawn with 'The Savage Jim Breen' and 'Boom Bust & Bailout';
Freshly-baked pizzas from the cob oven;
Delicious cakes in the Hunting Brook Café;
Free garden talk with Jimi at 2pm - the gardens will be in full bloom and this will be a fantastic opportunity to see them at their best;

The annual event is a mecca for those wanting to immerse themselves in the heat, flavour, history and variety of the chilli, while enjoying an eclectic line-up of talks, music and dance.

Drawing inspiration from the 300 varieties of chillies grown and displayed in West Dean’s glasshouses, the fiesta gathers over 100 stallholders presenting chillies to eat and grow, specially prepared sauces, homeware, clothes and jewellery embellished with the vibrant chilli icons. New for 2012: an extensive programme of entertainment across two stages; new bar-team; extended opening hours on Saturday evening.

NOTE: this event was originally planned for 27-29 July but due to the unseasonal weather in July has been moved to the August Bank Holiday.

The National Gardening SHow

The National Gardening Show showcases the finest in Autumn gardening, with lots of features that are unique to the show, advice from experts, and help on how to grow your own plants and vegetables. There's celebrity speakers Sarah Raven, Toby Buckland and Christine Walkden offering inspiration along with the National Dahlia Society Show, Edibile Busstop challenge, showcase gardens and the National Giant Vegetables Championships.
