The Lambourn Valley is famous for its prolific snowdrops growing in the roadside banks, ditches and fields. As you walk from the car park to the entrance you cannot fail to be delighted by the luxurious spread both sides of the main avenue under the century old lime trees.
Welford Park is the home of possibly the biggest spread of snowdrops in Europe – seven acres of Galanthus Nivalis cover our beech woods, resembling a carpet of snow for much of February. Visitors can enjoy the lawns, good quality paths, and recently renovated formal garden around the Queen Anne house. There are also many winter flowering shrubs with yellow aconites being followed by crocus.
Welford Park is open from 1 – 28 February Wed-Sun and (closed Mon/Tues). Gates open 11.00am and last ticket 4.00pm. There is a tea room serving delicious homemade lunches and cakes. (Not licenced and no credit card facility.) Snowdrop gift shop.
