Royal Greenhouse, Laeken, Belgium

The annual opening of Belgium's Royal Greenhouses at Laeken is one of Europe's must-see spring events. The elaborate steel and glass complex, designed in 1873 by Alphonse Balat, is home to many rare and valuable plant species, including varieties of azaleas and geraniums, which come into full bloom during the three-week opening. ECT Travel's weekend tour to Laeken also coincides with Floralia Brussels, a colourful and fragrant show of one million bulbs set in the park of the 17th-century Groot-Bijgaarden Castle. The tour ends with visits to the beautiful, historic gardens of Les Jardins d'Annevoie and Chateau Freyr.
