These are the flowers he couldn't live without in May and June, which offer colour, interest, movement and impact.
Included in his choices is his ultimate rose, a perennial that keeps blooming almost all year long, a surprisingly bright bloom for part shade and a towering flower stalk that's 2m tall.
He picks a beautiful species peony, Euphorbia ceratocarpa from southern Italy, giant fennel, or Ferula communis subsp. glauca, Rosa pimpinellifolia 'Single Cherry', and a late flowering tulip, Tulipa sprengeri.
