We begin in Tangier, the cosmopolitan gateway between Africa and Europe. Here we discover elegant private and public gardens that reflect the city’s international character, with highlights including the historic and artistic landscapes of Villa Mabrouka, the botanical richness of the Donabo Gardens and the remarkable ecological conservation techniques of Italian writer Umberto Pasti’s personal paradise, the Garden of Rohuna. These diverse gardens combine spectacular sea views, rare plants and fascinating cultural histories.
In Fez, the spiritual and intellectual heart of Morocco, we will visit the celebrated Jnan Sbil Gardens with elegant avenues, fountains, bamboo groves and exotic trees, as well as palace and riad gardens that reveal the traditional Moroccan ideal of harmony between architecture, water and nature. Continuing on to Rabat, we will encounter gardens closely linked to royal and urban history, such as the Andalusian Gardens within the Kasbah of the Udayas, and the historic parks and botanical gardens of the city, which illustrate Morocco’s long tradition of integrating landscape design into urban life.
We finish with four glorious days in Marrakech, where we will explore Yves Saint Laurent’s iconic Jardin Majorelle, the historic Menara and Agdal Gardens, the creative landscapes of Anima Garden and, of course, Le Jardin Secret, recently re-designed by Tom Stuart-Smith. Our journey concludes among the aromatic gardens of the Ourika Valley. Throughout the tour we’ll stay in atmospheric hotels, many with their own gardens.
